How to Set Up Your Epson EcoTank for InkJet Stencils Ink®

Josh Jensen

So you have your printer and you're ready to get started?  This process takes about 15 minutes - and most of that the printer is doing the work while you watch.

What you need

  • A new Epson EcoTank printer, still in the box
  • InkJet Stencils® ink (4 oz)
  • Nitrile gloves and a paper towel
  • The Epson ink bottles that came with the printer (you'll use their caps, not their ink)

Steps

  1. Unbox the printer. Keep the setup guide and the Epson ink bottles.
  2. Don't plug it in yet.
  3. Put on gloves and protect your work surface. The dye stains skin and surfaces.
  4. Open the ink tank cover. Remove the dispensing cap from an Epson ink bottle. Set the Epson ink aside for another use; don't pour it in.
  5. Clean the dispensing cap, to remove any black ink.
  6. Open the InkJet Stencils® ink and remove or pierce the foil seal.
  7. Seat the Epson dispensing cap on the tank port to use as a funnel.
  8. Optional: attach the included nozzle to the InkJet Stencils® bottle, to ensure slow dispensing.
  9. Pour the ink into the tank. On a Monochrome model, the bottle will fille one tank completely.  On a color model, we recommend you fill up the black with one bottle and split a second bottle across all three of the color tanks (one third each).
  10. Rinse and save the Epson dispensing caps. You'll use them for every refill.
  11. Close all tank caps and the cover.
  12. Plug in and power on. Follow the on-screen startup. Initial charging can take several minutes; don't interrupt it.
  13. Follow the Epson app instructions to connect to your Wi-Fi network, or alternatively you can use Wii-Fi Direct (connect directly to the printer).
  14. Set the paper type on the printer to Presentation Paper Matte.
  15. Save your InkJet Stencils bottle and leave it near the printer.  If someone else at the shop needs to re-order, they will know what to get!

Refilling. Top up when the level gets low, before it runs dry. Running dry pulls air into the lines and usually means a cleaning cycle to recover.
